The Ladies' Theosophical Society was established at Calcutta in April 1882. It was composed of native women — an innovation indeed at that time in India.[1]
In March, 1883, Mrs. Alice Gordon is chosen as President, and Mrs. Kumari Devi Ghosal, daughter of Devendro Nath Tagore, as Secretary.
