Page 1 transcription, image, and notes

Received Allahabad, cold weather, 1882-83.

Read the enclosed from C.C.M.; summon to your recollection, and then tell Sinnett the whole truth about the message which I gave you in London about the £100 in Mrs. Billing's and Upasika's presence. Do not forget to state the conditions under which I spoke. Do not let H.P.B. see C.C.M.'s letter but return it to Allahabad with your remarks.

NOTES:

Context and background

The person to whom this letter is addressed is not identified, but it was almost surely Col. Olcott, as indicated in Letter No. 103B. Much of this letter is obscure; there seems to be no further description of the incidents only hinted at by the Mahatma, although they involved, in part at least, the honesty of Mrs. Billings.

Physical description of letter

The original is in the British Library, Folio 3. George Linton and Virginia Hanson described the letter this way:

ML 91A is in blue pencil on a small sheet of note paper with rough edges, 5" X 7" [12.7 X 17.8 cm]. Heavy KH script.[1]
