Leadership in Theosophical groups

Lewis and Clark exposition at Portland

A report was made at the Nineteenth Annual Convention in Chicago, September 17-18, 1905, on

Mr. Snow reported informally on the Theosophical Booth maintained at the Lewis and Clark exposition at Portland, Oregon. Mrs. Wardall of Seattle and Mrs. Kyle of Tacoma arranged the booth and Mrs. Wardall was in charge during the season. The booth was in the cente of the Oriental building, tastefully arranged and under the word Theosophy whjich one might see at a distance. It was well patronized by visitors, literature was distributed and quesitons answered. Of the ultimate good such an understaking would bring forth it is impossible even to approximate, but certainly the seed was well and faithfully sown. Mr. Snow's report was accepted on motion and made a part of the proceedings."[1]

President Alexander Fullerton, his General Secretary's Report, further wrote:

"Mrs. Kyle of Tacoma and Mrs. Wardall of Seattle earnestly exerted themselves to establish in the Portland Exposition a Theosophical booth whence should be freely distributed literature and information, and so importand was this propaganda work among the thousands of visitors that I used part of the Discretionary Fund towards its expenses. With very great energy these ladies have for months attended personally the booth, and have also maintained Study Classes in Portland with view to an ultimate Branch. To grasp such an opportunity for large circulation of Theosophy was a happy thought, one of the many which this vigorous era makes feasible."[2]
