Sir Richard Francis Burton (1821-1890) was a British consul, explorer and Orientalist best known as the translator of The Thousand Nights and a Night, the famous Arabian Nights.

Boris de Zirkoff wrote of him: "It would appear from H.P.B.'s Diaries (entry of Oct. 12, 1878) that Capt. Burton became a Fellow of the T. S. in Great Britain."[1]
