Dervish or Darvesh is an ancient Persian word (from درویش) for a person who is following an ascetic path or "Tariqah", in the tradition of Sufism. Dervishes as known for a lifestyle of extreme poverty and austerity, similar to medicant orders in Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Sadhu is a similar term.
