The ''Readers Guide'' was first published by the Theosophical Publishing House in January 1972, containing 308 pages.
 
A revised and enlarged second edition of 430 pages was published in 1988 with some changes in the chronological arrangement of the letters. The Readers Guide to The Mahatma Letters to A. P. Sinnett was compiled by George Linton of Portland, Oregon, and Virginia Hanson, who was a staff member of the Theosophical Society in America.
