Reading room in Krotona Library

The Krotona Library is located in Ojai, California on the grounds of the Krotona Institute of Theosophy. Information about library location and hours is available on the Krotona Library website.

Library services and catalog

The circulating collection has been cataloged and is available for borrowing by local Ojai-area library members. The catalog is maintained through a consortial arrangement with the Henry S. Olcott Memorial Library, with which the Krotona Library is closely affiliated.

After Theosophical scholar Joy Mills passed away in 2015, she left over 500 annotated volumes to the library, along with photos and papers.

History

After the Krotona Institute of Theosophy was established in Ojai Valley in 1924 and moved from its Hollywood location, the library was moved as well. The collection had been put together by members of the Esoteric Section rather than the American Theosophical Society that had shared quarters with the Institute before moving back to Chicago in 1920. The library building was among the first built on Krotona Hill.
