Ishvara is seen as [[Brahman]] (the infinite and impersonal principle) when associated with [[Māyā]] or universal illusion, thus acquiring a personal character. Although connected to illusion the latter is under His control, unlike the [[jīva]] or individual [[soul]] who is Maya's slave. Ishvara has a lovely form, auspicious attributes and infinite power to create, sustain and destroy. He dwells in the heart of every being, controlling it from within.
