Allahabad is a large city in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The name is a Persian phrase meaning "settled by God." The city stands at the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna Rivers, and is a holy site to Hindus. It also has had political significance as a center for government offices, as the home of the Nehru family, and as a political center of the Indian National Congress.
