Guna (devanāgarī: गुण guṇa) is a Sanskrit word that means "quality", "virtue", "talent". In Samkhya philosophy, the guṇas are three major qualities or tendencies of prakṛti, which are called: sattva (purity, equilibrium), rajas (passion, activity), and tamas (ignorance, inertia).
