Indra Devi

Eugenie V. Peterson (Russian: Евгения Васильевна Петерсон; May 12, 1899 – April 25, 2002), known as Indra Devi, was a Russian yoga teacher who was an early disciple of Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, who is considered as "the father of modern yoga".

Her first spiritual awakening happened while attending a gathering of Theosophists to listen in Ommen in the Netherlands in 1926, to listen to Jiddu Krishnamurti. Devi was moved, became a vegetarian, and travelled to the headquarters of the Theosophical Society in Adyar, India. She was vital to the globalisation of yoga in the West.
