From 1895 until 1934, the legal name of the American Section of the Theosophical Society based in Adyar, India was American Theosophical Society. The organization was incorporated on September 21, 1911 in the state of Illinois.[1] In 1934, however, the name Theosophical Society in America was legally adopted.[2]
