Oracle is a word derived from the Latin verb ōrāre "to speak". It refers to a priestess or priest through whom a deity is believed to speak, giving wise counsel or prophetic predictions of the future. The word may be used in a more general sense to the place or shrine in which the deity reveals its wisdom through such a person.
