The Occult World, written by Alfred Percy Sinnett, was first published in 1881. It generated great interest in the West, and went through several printings and editions.
According to the Blavatsky Study Center:

The serious interest of Sinnett in the teachings and the work of the Theosophical Society prompted H. P.
