Walter Hampden, was the stage name of Walter Hampden Dougherty (June 30, 1879 – June 11, 1955), an American actor and theater manager. He was a major star on London and Broadway stages, on television, and in films. He was a member of the American Theosophical Society and acted in theatrical productions of The Light of Asia at Krotona in Hollywood, and later on Broadway. He worked closely with Theosophists such as composer Charles Wakefield Cadman; Claude Bragdon designed many of Hampden's Broadway productions.
