Nicholas Roerich (known also as Nikolai Konstantinovich Rerikh or in Russian, Никола́й Константи́нович Ре́рих) was a Russian painter, theatrical designer, and writer best known for his mystical paintings of the Himalayas.
Early years
Roerich was born on October 9, 1874 and raised in St.Petersburg, Russia. He studied art and law at St. Petersburg University and at the Imperial Academy of arts, and then directed the school of the Imperial Society for the Encouragement of the Arts from 1906 to 1917.
