Portrait of Thomas Taylor by Sir Thomas Lawrence, about 1812, from the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa. In the background the Acropolis in Athens is in silhouette against a fiery sky; by Taylor's left hand is a copy of his translation of the works of Plato.

Thomas Taylor (1758-1835) was an English scholar who translated into English the complete works of Aristotle and of Plato, and also the Orphic fragments. His translations were very influential to such people as Ralph Waldo Emerson and G. R. S. Mead. His work was frequently published in The Platonist.
