The Theosophical Society was formed in series of six meetings that took place from September to November, 1875, in New York City. On the second meeting, held on September 8, the following names were recorded as being part of the founders of the Society:[1][2]
At the subsequent meeting of September 13, the earlier signatories were joined by others whose names were added to the roster of "founders", the most prominent of the newcomers being the Rev. J. H. Wiggin.[3] On October 30 the officers were elected, and Dr. Seth Pancoast appears as one of the Vice-Presidents of the organization.

When the term "The Founders" is used the early writings such as The Mahatma Letters to A. P. Sinnett, it usually refers to Helena Petrovna Blavatsky and Henry Steel Olcott.
