  • 1880 – Col. Olcott, in Bombay, wrote in his diary: "M. [was] here this evening & wrote to Fauvety of Paris. He says 5000 English troops killed in Afghanistan in the recent battle."
  • 1889 – Annie Besant, after joining the Theosophical Society, gave a lecture entitled "Why I Became a Theosophist" at the Hall of Science. She lectured again on the 11th.
