- 1881 – A General Council meeting was held where it was decided by unanimous vote that the President and the Corresponding Secretary would hold office for life. Damodar K. Mavalankar was appointed Joint Recording Secretary.
- 1953 – Nilakanta Sri Ram (1889-1973), took office as the fifth international President of the Theosophical Society (Adyar).

- 1847 – date claimed by C. W. Leadbeater, as recorded on his passports, though the birth records show he was born on February 16, 1854. (d. March 1, 1934)
- 1867 – Charles Johnston, Sanskrit scholar and Theosophist, married to H. P. Blavatsky's niece Vera Vladimirovna de Zhelihovsky (d. October 16, 1931)
