- 1889 – Annie Besant reviews H. P. Blavatsky’s The Secret Doctrine in the Pall Mall Gazette.
- 1891 – A very serious epidemic of influenza reaches London. Practically the entire staff at 19 Avenue Rd. was laid up with it, three of them being at death's door. Mme. Blavatsky has a very high fever, and her doctor, Z. Mennell, is seriously alarmed.
