- 1871 – Mme. Blavatsky was on a ship going from Greece to Egypt. The gunpowder it carried as a protection against pirates blew up, with a considerable loss of life. H.P.B. was uninjured.
- 1879 – Mme. Blavatsky and Col. Olcott decided to publish a magazine of their own--The Theosophist.
- 1980 – Radha Burnier was elected as the seventh international president of the Theosophical Society (Adyar).
